I've got my 3rd annual ELECSA Part P assessment coming up. I've recently wired a large extension on my own house and I am wondering if I can use that for the assessment ... does anyone know if using a job on your own property is acceptable / unacceptable?

I know it's definitely ok for the first assessment, and took them to a customer's house last year, so I'm wondering if I can get away with using my own house this year.

I can't find anywhere that says it has to be a paying job, all I can find on the ELECSA site is: "Site Visit: The assessor will need to see domestic installation work representative of the work you typically undertake. It also needs to be substantial enough to allow the assessor to make an objective assessment of your competence and the work you present on the day will be subject to the judgement of the assessor that this assessment can be made"

Has anyone here used their own house for an annual (not first) assessment?

can't see a problem. at least your own install at home will be done to the highest standard. if in doubt, ask elecsa.

i don't doubt it, but meant, in you own home, you'd not be working to a price to save on the best gear.

hope you're using that galv. as cpc. and not adding unnecessary conductors.

I used the house we are doing up this year for my assessment, it was part way through a complete rewire and my assessor didn't know it was my house, but did like the fact he could see about 75% of the cable runs...... I asked him if he wanted to look in the loft at the upstairs lighting circuit but he didn't!!

Next year I'm planning on using the extension we will be having built as my "assessment" piece!

He'll certainly know it's my house because it's the address I've got registered with them.

Sounds like it shouldn't be a problem though.

Cheers

It's definitely not a problem using your own house at reassessment. Recently had my 4th assessment at my own house. Had lined up a rewire at a mates for him to look at but once he'd found out I'd recently fitted my own PV system, he was happy to poke around that instead.
