Emergency Lighting Indicator Lamp

I've been asked by a client to 'mask off' the green LED charging indictor lamps within several emergency lights fitted within bedrooms on a project I'm working on. I've searched to see if this goes against any regs or manufacturers instructions but haven't found anything. Has anyone done this before, is it ok to do? The client is happy to not completely cover the lamp but would like it to be less disturbing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd be inclined to say no anyhow.

The led serves a useful purpose confirming the unit is powered

The green LEDs have become ridiculously bright in some fittings these days.

If you shop around there are some fittings out there which allow you to switch between bright or dim on the green LED.

Who designed the emergency lighting? It seems pretty short-sighted to be speccing self contained fittings in a bedroom.

The whole design is short sighted! I don't feel comfortable doing it but I'm struggling to find a solid reason not too.

This was my argument but they have said the don't want to mask off completely just to take some of the brightness away

Can't see how masking them off a bit will do much harm. We fitted some Acel bulkheads in a shop a few years back and happened to walk past in the dark, I couldn't believe how bright the charge indicators were it put a green hue across the place.

There you have it: Orange and green make brown, due to the component colours containing all three primary colours, but it can often result in an olive colour (dull brownish-green), or even black, if the shades and ratios are right.

Might be a struggle finding an orange Tesco bag.

We have stuck white label tape over super bright charging LEDs before, it blocks the bright glare of the extreme brightness LEDs to stop it lighting the room, while still being easily visible for routine inspection.
