Hi all, i'm just after a definitive answer regarding a fire alarm system in a communal area/stairwell.
There are call points, smoke heads & sounders on each floor (3 floors), with 5 owned flats each with a heat/sounder installed in the their hallways linked to the same system.
Would this be classed as LD2 or LD3?

I think these grading can only be applied to individual dwellings.
From each flats point of view, LD3.
It sounds as the the system for the communal areas is L3.
What is the underlying issue?

Thanks for your reply.
The management company for the building asked for the fire alarm to be installed May 2021 along with emergency lighting for the communal area only. After completion they then came back to us in July 21 asking that we install a heat/sounder linked to the same system in every flat hallway for added protection and warning. We issued a cert for an LD3 system installed. They have now come to us saying that they have had a fire inspection which has failed due to it not being an LD2 system, (which apparently was on an updated spec...which nobody can seem to locate and we never saw). Some of the flats have their own internal smokes/heats. But due to it being a communal area job only we are a bit confused as to what can be done to make it LD2 as there are no high risk areas other than the incoming supply and landlords ccu. Or would relocating the hallway heat/sounder to each individual kitchen change the grading. (We have not yet seen the failed report).
