Hi I am first year apprentice nearly finished my first year, I was just wondering what people experience with Learning Lounge (Learning Lounge - the flexible online learning resource for education and commerce - techincal training, health and safety, and corporate communications.) is? I really like there youtube videos (Specifically the testing and inspection ones). But before committing 50 pounds for a year was just wondering if it was generally worth it?

Hi Steven, If you are training via a college, check if they have free access for their students. If not you will have to become a member via annual subscription. The site is a video based learning resource with little written information which some students find annoying. The site and videos are have two major sponsors NICEIC and Megger, therefore NICEIC documentation and Megger test equipment is used almost exclusively, this is another point of irritation for students who are training with other schemes documentation or manufacturers test gear. Most of the videos are presented by Dave Austin and often feature the NICEIC Senior Marketing and Events Manager Tony Cable, at times their delivery can be a bit Blue Peter and patronising as the scripts are written for the lowest common denominator i.e. they do not assume prior knowledge acquired from study, work or watching other videos on the site.

Thanks very much for your good reply. Unfortunately my college does not have a subscription. I think I am going to go for it. I would only waste the 50 pounds. When I can invest it in better education.

The range of videos on learning lounge is a bit limited and could do with being updated.
