Doing a pir in a factory today and was testing a machine and found that there was no earth on it, swa was not glanded in correctly at the machine end, only shoved through a hole and taped up the circuit had a seperate 16.0mm g/y but no earth contonuity?
After finding a 100A isolator hidden behind some racking i found this in the bottom. IMG00181-20101118-1051.jpg L/H connector is on 6mm earth screw on bottom of isolator, middle cable is incoming cpc, L/H cable is outgoing cpc, whoever installed it must have thought that the connectors were made of some sort of magic plastic that would give the earth continuity?
this factory was last inspected 4 yrs ago and wasn't found then, machine has been in 10 years. The machine was earthed through parrallel paths as it had another 63A TP supply on it, would suspect only earth loop carried out in past and rest of reading guessed!!
