What ...and No RCD's either??...lol!! They don't normally connect anything to the earth pin of the sockets, because most appliances (like your spanking new kettle) all come with twin flex and 2 pin plug tops!! Just needs a little nudge from government, requiring all class 1 appliances and equipment be supplied with suitable cords and plug tops. It's exactly the same here, but i have seen things gradually changing over the past 5 years or so... lol!!!

i think there is an rcd fitted at the mains , so that helps a bit!, the shower is 8kw and they are all supplyed with a 2.5 cable , they have an inbuilt rcd

i forgot to take a pic of a meter with its terminal cover missing , on the electricity pole in the street, abt head hight, definatly live-the wheel was spinning!
also a socket with a knife switch above it , the switch had no cover either

As Kenny stated, no difference to what you would see in India, and a good many other Far East countries. It's the same here in the shanty towns, but seems to be improving, abeit slowly!! lol!!

As for the guy working, ...they don't seem to have the fear that we Westerns see, and have certanly little to no H&S provisions in place. We have to stop this kind of working on a daily basis at our project. You have to literary threaten them with being banned from the site to get them to listen and to take any notice of you.. It's all in a normal working day for them!!!... lol!!!

thanks for the replys fellas, there was a tourist electrocuted a few months ago the fridge was live
also a little aussie lad he plugged his game in, in his hotel room and died
also a tourist, he stepped on a live cable in a flood in bangla road patong-
the list is endless , the thing is--nothing is ever done about it, its just put down as an accident by the authorities

human life has very little value in some of theses countries,it is not uncommon for people to be killed by a passing bus, they wipe the blood off the front of the bus and it carries on with its journey

Maybe its their idea of population management?

Has a lot to say for the British Standard that we (most) abide by.
