I recently took the plunge and started up on my own. I read all the info I could find on the internet regarding starting up a new business, and got all the relevant literature from local business groups. I thought I had taken everything into account, and felt pretty confident that I had thought of everything.:D

What I didn’t recon on, was the amount of spam phone calls I would receive! I’ve had people trying to sell me discount fuel (I only have one vehicle), new business fleet phone contracts (happy with my PAYG phone), numerous calls to advertise in ‘selected’ community publications, asking to sponsor various charitable events, offers to tender for ‘national profitable contracts’ (but won’t give details over the phone), I even had one company inviting me to join some kind of timeshare for private business jets!!! How do I include that on the customers invoice!

Happened to me mate. Just hang up on them as soon as its clear what they want.

Since just hanging up on them not had any in thelast 6 weeks or so.

Couldn't agree more. They will all guarantee to work with you to help your business but never do and they want to tie you in to a 12month contract. I had no end of them, all I did was ask for a 1 month trial so i could see the response i got from their advertising, none of them were interested in this. Basically it doesn't work, they know it, but want you to cough up for 12 months.

we get them now and then i tell them to f### ### or ask them what the weathers like if there calling from india that normall frows them

I usually try and sell them something back, answer every question with another question. They soon get bored.

Ask them if they need any electrical work doing!

im registered with that tps. still have a number of spam phone calls though. If the calls not my area code i dont bother answering, gets rite on my ---- wen ur trying to work lol.

Thought I had a call from a customer this morning, until I found out it was a company called ServiceMagic? So let me get this straight….you want me to pay you so I can quote for works that I might not even get? Needless to say, I wasn’t interested!

Now I just ignore ‘Withheld’ numbers. They seem to ring about five or six times, then stop!

Get sick of these all the time.... must have a good dozen or so a week, even on a Sunday!

What I have done for a while now is save the various numbers on my mobile as 'sales' or similar, then everytime they try and call back send it straight to voicemail. Or if it's a an 0800 / 0845 or out my areas then I normally just ignore it.

I dont end the call, i put it on loudspeaker and listen to them waffling on whilst i get on with what ia m doing, when you dont answer their questions they usually say hello half a dozen times, then realise you havent been listening to them so they hang up and never call back.

I was getting a lot of these and then thought I'd tell em I'm not trading....after a few different co's called that was the end of it or at least its now not very often.

Wasn’t there a sketch show a while back, where the presenter took a call from two different sales companies. He then transferred each call to the opposite company, and listened in as they tried to sell their services to each other!!!
