Hi All,

im looking into getting a PAT tester at some point this year. However my friend, a fellow spark says that he bought an adapter for his meter for a mere £30.

Its an adaptor that you place the leads from your 17th Meter into the adaptor and place the 13A plug into it.

Im slightly suspicious of these at present as l know nothing about them. Can anyone educate me on these and whether or not you would consider buying one, instead of the big bulky PAT testers?

And do they satisfy the bare minimum requirements for PAT testing services or would the bulky version be worth it in the long run.

Any feedback welcome. Ta... :winkiss:

think kewtech make them a couple of the lads use them and rate them OK. your biggest problem is hammering the batteries in your MFT.

yep this is what your after

kewtech pat adaptor

i had to buy this after buying a seaward prime test 100 thinking you could ir test at 230 and 500v. but you can only ir test at 500v

connecting this to my megger i can pat test sensitive IT equipment, i.e computers

well to be honest they said originally the primetest 100 can test it equipment and maybe you can. but i wasn't willing to take the risk on 12 office computers today.

i have emailed them, to which i still haven't had a reply. will try to change it for a 250 if they are game. haha

The Kewtech PAT adaptor may be sufficient to get you started (I have one in my tool kit) if your only testing up to 50 items, beyond that it becomes a real pain and it is much easier with a dedicated PAT.
Because the adaptor relies on an MFT to drive it, when doing the earth bond test you are limited to the output of the MFT on it's low resistance ranges, approximately 200mA. That is not ideal for testing Class 1 equipment where a hard test at a maximum of 26A is more appropriate, but it still complies with the IET Code of Practice and is similar to most of the battery driven hand-held PATs on the market.
