1. How can a not for profit organisation fleece its customers to the tune of £400+ for a half day assessment and offer so little in return?
2. How does a not for profit organisation justify paying its employees massive salaries to the direct detriment of hard working sparkies through-out the country?
3. Why does a multi million pound contractor pay the same as a one man band?
4. Why is there no cost effective alternative to your "services"?

Why do shed sell consumer units knowing that they are going to be bought and installed by un regesterd diy chaps and chapess'

Because the law lets them...

At the end of the day, the DIY stores sell because they can and make a profit... It's not their job to police the industry...

They also sell knives and axes, knowing that they COULD be used to kill people.

  • Can a TN-C-S be exported to a shed?
  • Should a neutral be taken to a switch?
  • Should black or grey be used as neutral in 3 core cable?
  • Which colour should be used as common in 2 way lighting circuits?

How much do you get paid for being 'An all knowledgeable Guru?'

Saw Tony Cable (I assume) & sidekick today at ELEX on their presentation stage, same old 10 most asked Qs and how to fill an EICR, what a waste of time.

Don't ever understand this one...

Surely this means EVERY garage/shed etc needs its own spike...

What on earth (excuse the pun!) is wrong with using the installation earth as long as the Zs of each circuit is within limits?

Why should i continue my membership with one of the schemes, when in comparison the number of jobs done that are not notified compared to the ones that get prosecuted proves you will not be punished in any way?

OOH dear ladies!

There is no point having a dig at the Assessor. He has no control over B&Q selling things, he isnt a genius, he doesnt know all the answers, british standard have got nothing to do with him, scheme provider fees are not set by or charged by him, he will not get anywhere near £400 for his halfday visit. He is not there to pass or fail you, he wants to help and advise, he is knowledgeable about the subject he is assessing, you should also be knowledgeable about it too, or you wouldnt put yourself up for assessment.

An Assessor's job is to,

Assess that you are competent in the subject field. In this case he is assessing your ability to be able to work to a set standard as laid down by BS7671, and its implications with the building regulations. He is carrying out an Assessment of you, against a set criteria, which is the same criteria for all who are being assessed for the same purpose. The assessment should be fair, and all candidates should be assessed to the same requirements. If you are assessed as meeting the criteria, then you will be told so, and you will also be told if you do not meet the required standard.

The scheme provider assessors all hold the Qualification of Assessing competence in the workplace, and this is limited to assessing in their subject field.
You need to remember that the Assessor is an Electrical Engineer of some sort, and will have extensive subject knowledge, just like you. He wont know it all, and neither do you, but he wants to see that you can find out what you need to know.

I hold this qualification, but dont assess Part P Electricians, i deal with apprentices, but the practice and principles are exactly the same.

Cheers..........Howard

The assessor is though the link between the contractor and the governing body and asking him questions will hopefully get back to HQ. My point about BS standards are that i believe that Gas Safe, a cps, offer free access to relevant BS to its members.

Yeah right, I suppose that's how these 17day/Electrical Trainee can sail through these so-called competency assessments set out by these providers!! All these assessments are a 400+ (minimum) quid farce!!

1 why do i have to be asessed yearly, surely unless i get amnesia i am still going to know how to do my job for many years?
2 is it so you can have a regular income?

The best question to ask is "How many sugars in your tea,he will reply something along the lines of "Do you have coffee"?

The rest of questions are rumoured to be electrically based, but the difficulty of the questions deteriorate from the initial coffee one
