Discuss Ratchet cutters in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Anyone used the Partex ratchet shears?
At £60 surely their worth a punt? I only do a dozen large cuts of 150+mm tails a year and not worth the money knipex cost...
any other cheap recommendations gratefully received ..

Cable Cutter, Cables up to 380mm, PRCC380

got something similar, was around £70. comes in handy for cutting through the bone of a lamb leg that's too big to fit in the oven dish. also goes through the smaller sizes of SWA.

Really not worried about cutting SWA. Two or three times a years need to cut 150mm plus tri flex and tails and cutting with a hacksaw or grinder makes fitting the lugs difficult.

I've no issue with either a hacksaw or grinder really, but sometimes it can be a pita trying to get lugs on when the cable has been disturbed by either method. Especially tri-rated cables and if the manufacture of the lugs are on the tight side...

think i'll take a punt on the cutters, I am a bit of a tool tart but can't warrant the cost of the knipex ones for so few a cuts...

I like to leave on as much of the insulation (to be stripped) as possible.
Remove just enough to get the lug started then knife off the remainder.
Talking tri rated and the likes.
