I've been looking at options for replacing a single light fitting with some kind of spot light arrangement. There are a fair number of wires in the existing fitting: There's feed in, feed out, and 3-way cables to two switches.

I assume it's going to be rather fiddly to install a mains track (need to cut hole for fire-rated back box?) so have been looking at the 4-light self-contained bars. Can anyone advise on a make/model which will suit? Don't want to buy something and then find it has only a titchy space for wiring.

I would like to get one of the 3-spot units with the large circular base but SWMBO insists on either bars or mains track, e.g. lights in a row.

many thanks,
Simon.

Take a photo of the wiring at the fitting and post on here. If it is two or three way then it could be wired in number of different ways, but on the other hand as you are DIY you may be describing things in you own words which may lead to bum advice if we can't understand what you mean.

Cheers............Howard

Hi Howard,

I tried to upload a picture, but it doesn't work! But my problem is not in understanding the wiring, it's finding a fitting to contain the wires that are there now while changing as little as possible. So I'm looking for a fitting with plenty of space inside, that's all.

thanks,
Simon.
