Hi All,

Pretty comfortable with wiring lighting until I came across needing to install 2 way dimming with a Retractive switch. I didn’t even know there was a thing called Retractive switch. Question is how do I wire this for a 2 way dimming. More specifically which cable goes into RS on the switch?

Many thanks in advance

Retractive switches are used in conjunction with an impulse relay. As many retractive switches as you like can all be wired in parallel and connected to a single relay, to switch a single light or a group of light together.
Any dimming would have to be done on the load side of the relay, and wiring for that would be separate from the switch wire.
It's conceivable that a retractive switch could be combined with a dimmer, but the wiring to the impulse switch and dimmer module (again, conceivably combined into one unit) will be effectively separate.

You can buy 'switch dim' dimmer units with an input for retractive switches, press on/off hold to dim. This would replace the impulse relay. Some dimmers such as some Danlers models allow connection to retractive switches to allow dimming from all 2/3 etc. way positions that would allow connection if you only have 2 cores to each switch.

You can buy lights with this type of dimming feature built in too.

Here's an example of a dimmer module for use with retractive switches
Note the switch wire pair are separate from L, sL and N, so might be 'interesting' to retro-fit!
