Ring circuit problem

hi can anyone give some advice on a problem with a ring circuit.when testing end to end everything fine,when testing r1 ,r2 everything fine,problem is with insulation test,live to neutral showing dead short.also if i disconnect all links i get a continuity reading on the sockets where i should get nothing(r1,r2)

something plkugged in deffo. boiler on spur? kitchen appliances plugged in behind.

Nothing plugged in,tried to power up,tripps instantly

You mean that you are getting a continuity between r1 and r2 at sockets even with all links disconnected?

Yes,but a very high reading

Could be a nicked line insulation on a backbox

whats the best way to identify it

Split ring in half and test each half

Pull forward each socket front and test. When fault clears you know which socket

Also look for pictures, curtain rails etc directly above sockets, could be a nail/screw nicking the insulation of a cable.
