Safety without block connector?

Hi

I am seeking to extend the two core (5A) electrical supply cable to my LCD TV and wonder whether I can do this without a cable block connector i.e. simply solder the leads and insulate with tape - will this be safe?

Reason is I need to hide all the TV cables into a cable management conduit which runs along the Skirting and a block connector will not fit.

Or is there another alternative please/

I agree with Mac, but another solution would be to solder and cover with heatshrink tubing in the appropriate colour

agree, solder and heat shrink each core, then another heat shrink on top
