I think we all know that the longer the course is the more knowledge you will get. Unfortunately spending 5 years on a course is just not possible for everyone.

2 years? Just the start. Go for it have fun and learn lots find work with a local electrician help him and learn a lot more, read lots of books and welcome to the forum
 
Seems a strange course to tag on, also it's level 3 isn't it,
So level 3 building regs the level 2 install followed by level 3 install and I hope then 17th edition
