Hi looking for some advice,

personally I wouldn't install sockets in a wooden shed for various reasons however been to look at a fault and found a 6x6 shed with a freezer inside as well as 6 sockets (double white plastic surface mounted)

the shed roof is leaking which is causing water to drip into the ill attached sockets so have disconnected the supply to the shed for safety reasons

on further inspection the armoured cable is jointed just outside the shed in a 30amp junction box - non ip rated and filled with bloody sealant over the top of the terminals so no chance of me getting to it

My thoughts on this are the sockets should be IP Rated weatherproof ones and the cable needs replacing rather than terminated just outside the shed in a JB. - looks as though ran out of cable so just used a new shorter length to finish off.

Whats your views on non ip rated sockets in a wooden shed as for me the right equipment hasn't been selected based on external influences?

If the shed is new or has been maintained correctly, I see no reason why ordinary sockets can't be used. This is the whole point of PIR's (which no ordinary householder has done) if you had the installation checked every now and then, you could advise what needs to be done to keep the installation safe.

Usually I go for metal clad sockets etc, and come down in tube for mechanical protection.

Think you will have to let section 522 of the regs be your guide and in the case of the sockets 522.3. I would though rather than just install IP rated sockets like the masterseal advise the customer that while your making your installation safer, they should remember that appliances do not like dampness and moisture and it is not doing the freezer many favours being in such an enviroment.

As for yhe SWA, Again I would asvise of removing the JB and terminated the SWA into a proper adaptable/wiska box and then extend with a new piece of cable into the shed.
