Hi there,

first post out here after looking through some other discussions. Looks like a helpful site!

I have just moved into a house with my SO, and we are contemplating removing 2 wall light fittings in our living room. We were wondering about our options (note I don't have an electrical background but have some technical knowledge!), so I thought I'd ask you guys and girls!

1) Remove the light fittings myself, leave the wiring in place and plaster&paint over. If this is possible how would this be done in a safe way?
2) Get an electrician in the remove the wiring for the 2 fittings. How much should we be budgeting for 2x wiring removal?
3) fall back option to leave the wall lights up and just change the fitting! Missus doesn't like that scenario!

If anyone has any information that could be useful id appreciate it!

Thanks in advance
steve

Options 2 and it wouldn't cost much. Option 3 will end up with grief of the missus :D

Option 1 would absolutely require the supply to those wall lights to be disconnected permanently other wise you may end up with a live wall and you would also not know there was a live cable there if later work was done.
Option 2 is your best approach as said above.

Great, thank you both!
What would be the price range you would budget for the work?

as a rough guide , if it were me and it took 1 hour, i'd charge £45 + any materials used. additional time if it was a bit more awkward would be @ £15/30mins. ( assuming the location was within 10 miles, which you obviously aren't . :icon9: ).
