Discuss Weekend working in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Had to work this Saturday and Sunday because of an emergency:sad3:, but I do not normally work weekends. I may have days off in the week but I want the weekends free for me all the time.
This weekend totally messed up and should be doing other things not writing on a forum!

In the industrial scene we end up working nearly every weekend. It does get tiring but then over the years it seems a treat to have one off !!

I dropped my 6 month old 10.v bosch impact driver from a ladder the other saturday. Grrr. Broke the casing.
I thought you were supposed to be able to drop those from 2m onto concrete without them breaking?

I tend to do any private work at the weekend. Can't be doing with going into my main job at the weekend though.
If you look around the forum there are always loads of people asking to do weekend domestic work for free to gain experience - I would have thought they could be exploited to save a few quid.

I work most weekends, so a 7 day week per week for me (i love my job)
I do take time off when Mrs requests it
But i do like my 4 holidays per year (all unpaid as self employed)
Only had 2 days off this year due to lack of work, god i was bored those 2 days hehe

I never charge extra for weekend work but then I dont employ anyone and I generally do it out of choice because there arn't enough days in the week. If a client specified that I had to do the job on the weekend and it was all day sat and sun, well.....
I'd prolly quote 50% extra in the hope that I dont get the job and I can go out and get paralympic instead.

I'm working 7 days at the moment to fit all my work in. I don't like to say no to people as I'm self employed. To be honest I can't wait for a full weekend off.

i've worked for companies as a subby on industrial/commercial projects and it really cheeses me off when they expect you to work for your flat rate on a weekend (because you're self employed). whilst their blokes, who work on the books, get paid a premium for this work. i've turned down loads of weekend work because of this. what's even more insulting is when they offer you time and a fifth. i'd rather be re-charging my batteries at home.

Yes, people know my rates if they want me in they pay the rates! Trouble is I bloody end up in !!
