Just been reading about Doody Toody helping Paul M and going to the wrong address, it reminded me of an incident which happened to me when I was working for SWEB in Bath.

We were give jobs via a card, go to stores pick up bits and proceed to job etc etc. Well the job was in John Colliers the gents outfitters, bimbles in speak to Manager " come to wire a light in your store room OK this way, simple job 3 hours, back to office. You know when you are in the proverbial when everyone looks at you, suck their teeth and turn away laughing, there are 2 Colliers shops in Bath, yes you guessed it I had gone to the wrong one, had to go back rip it out and complete the job in the other shop, felt like a bit of a prat and needless to say didn't last long with the SWEB.

Anyone else had any similar experiences?:ack2::hammer:

Gateshead council decent homes programme before we were given ID cards.
Me and Garry Gray got sent to a house to second fix a heating system, the old boy let us in and showed me where the boiler was. Everything was done and it wasn't one of the type the pipe monkeys were installing. I went looking for the thermostat and there it was.
Just then the old dear came downstairs and started aggresively asking us who we were and why we were in their house. She told us it wasn't even a council house so I apologised and left.
Got to the car and rang our gaffer who told us to sit tight while he checked things out.
Then around the corner came the police car that the old dear had called.
It took a bit of explaining and a visit to the site office to sort that one out

Not an easy one to get out of there Trev, don't you feel a right divvy when things like that happen?

Went from coventry to newbury easy job just install some handdriers at a Taylor Woodrow office. Got there don't need any handriers here mate got all we need. Checked with office they had put wrong branch should have been soilhull. Ah well nice day out.

Not so much a wrong address more like wrong place wrong time, working in Bristol with three other lads (going back a bit mind you) early morning me and the other spark in the front 2 mates in the back with the cable etc (good old days) any way big Datsun came round the corner, bloke driving trying to get his tongue down his lady fiends throat, bish bash bosh almighty prang, matey boy driving gets out giving it loud about this and that, problem being matey boy had no insurance, and would we accept some dosh to keep quiet, no can do mate firms vehicle.

The upshot was he would speak to our boss and try and sort things out with him, no deal apparently, in the mean time we had gone to site to carry on working after explaining to the site agent why we where late, later that afternoon we had a visit from the boys in blue, nothing we had done, but it seems the guy who hit us was some one high up in the local organised crime scene and him and his cronies were after blood, ours to be more precise, off the job Police escort never to return, scary, Oh they were Italian, if you know what I mean.

I’ve posted this before but here it is again….lol. Got sent to do a periodic inspection on a terrace house that a client rents out. We were a bit pushed for labour that week and “Big Chief Running With Dough” asked me if I could pop in early, get it done and then move on to my other job. Rocked onto site at six in the morning. Tried the key in the door of the property but it wouldn’t fit. Thought…”The plonker has given me the wrong key. I haven’t got time for this bo***cks”. A bit of sneaky jiggery pokery and I was in through the front door. Got the job done and moved on. About three o’clock in the afternoon the client rings me; “I have been waiting for you all day. I thought you were coming to do some testing”. I said; “ I’ve been! Got in early and got it done. By the way, there is a problem with the front door lock. I couldn’t get the key to fit. Luckily you left the door open for me. Anyway, I will call past on the way home to drop the key off”. Got back to the property and the client was waiting outside for me. I went to go into No 44 and he said; “No not that one. This is the one No 42.” Checked the paper work and it definitely said No 44. Only tested the wrong property and had to go back the next morning to do it all over again. Went there recently to test No 42 again. This time they had fixed that dodgy lock…lol

On the 'wrong address' front, it is well known that postcodes and sat nav can be a problem! In Bath there used to be 2 MOD units on opposite sides of the city. Unfortunately they shared a post room at one site. One of our contractors went to Bath for a meeting only to go to the wrong site, that with the post room, while the meeting was at the other site! There was another occasion when a contractor had entered the postcode of a site in Hampshire. Unfortunately the sat nav took him to a gate to the site that was not open. Unfortunately he only had sat nav and no map, finding his way to the correct gate was something of a challenge. He was late for the meeting too!

Three Ensliegh, Warminster Road and Foxhill, happy days oh happy days, many a day spent visiting these three, which reminds me, on call, heating problems, about the time when the first optimised system came on line, Ensliegh's had gone tytes up and I was asked to go to work at 4am to chech if the heating had come on, only went on a Sunday instead of Monday, oh the mistake of being youthful. It was a long time ago like 1982.

My old band was eventually booked at a place which was notoriously difficult to get a gig at, the alloted time came and so I packed my back line into the car put my guitars on top and off I went.
No one was there so I had a relaxing set up, on being hassled by some of the regulars I got my acoustic out and played a few songs.
Then a band walked in.
Not my band.
I'd only gone a week early, every cloud though. I got a few solo gigs out of it.

Rock on Tommy

Best one I knew of many years ago, was that of a plumber that I did work for. He had a bathroom suite to change basically like for like. Customer went into his shop, chose the suit etc and left him his address details and that the door key would be left under a pot plant to the left of the front door. On the agreed date of installation, plumber went to the job, pulled up, got key from under said plant pot, let himself in and got stuck into the job. Everything in bathroom ripped out and put onto front lawn.
Opps! Owner came home from lunch, wondered what the hell was going on! Yep, you've guessed it! He was in the wrong house.
The address was something like Something Avenue and he went to Something Road! Wish I was there to see the owners face!

Same decent homes programme, a property had been surveyed and it was decided that it would get the full works. Rewire, boiler, kitchen, double glazing, front and back doors, loft and cavity insulation.
So the sparkies turned up and the woman let them in and the bashing commenced. They were asking her questions as Mrs x but she put them right as Mrs Y. the following day the rewire was done. CoW was presented with the certs and he asked why the work had been done. Between survey date and install date Mr & Mrs X had moved out and Mr & Mrs Y had moved in and bought it.
Oops :)
