Hi

I am new to the forum and would like some expert advice on my kitchen planning and also a sanity check on the maths please.

I will be replacing a kitchen into a 20 year old house, so fairly modern build. The built in gas oven/grill is currently housed in a tall cabinet with a gas hob on an adjacent wall. The intentions are to replace with a built in single electric oven with built in microwave above it. The gas hob is to be replaced with an induction hob. A gas safe engineer will be capping the supply to the old gas oven and gas hob.

All appliance socket outlets (fridge, dishwasher etc) have FCU's fitted above the worktops with 2.5mm T&E so a good starting point. There is also a socket outlet on the wall behind the built in oven with an FCU adjacent. A 32A cooker supply has also been installed with 6mm T&E (at build) near to the gas hob but which has remained redundant due to no stand alone electric oven / hob (gas hob currently fitted).

So, my plan.......firstly installing the single electric oven and microwave:
Single Oven is rated at 2.9kW total load
Microwave rated at 900W
Fit the oven with 2.5mm heat resistant flexible then into a plug and utilise the existing socket outlet at rear of the original tall cabinet (this is protected by 2.5mm T&E 13A FCU). With a 12.6A draw from the 2.9kW oven and then applying OSG diversity regs it will be 10.78A (10 + (2.6 x 0.3)) so seems absolutely fine. I would then run an additional 13A FCU in 2.5mm T&E for the microwave above with socket outlet for the microwave.
Knowing that the there are mixed feelings regarding using plugs for built in single ovens (this one isn't supplied with cable or plug) I wanted some advice firstly as to whether this installation is safe but also whether my maths are correct and the install is permissable / notifiable. Considering the oven has been deliberately chosen as <3kW is it therefore acceptable to use 2.5mm flex + plug + existing 13A FCU / socket outlet?

Second plan is for the induction hob.
Rated at 7.4kW
I intend to utilise the existing 32A radial and wire straight into the CCU with 6mm butyl. The existing cooker isolator also has a socket outlet so I have added the 5A to the diversity equation. Can't see a problem with this at all but would appreciate a more experience person to give it the thumbs up. (7.4kW = 32.174A therefore with diversity regs = 21.65A (10 + (22.174 x 0.3) + 5).

So that's about it apart from the big money question.....is any of the work notifiable? Any advice or guidance will be most appreciated.

Mike

sounds a decent plan. i would put the oven on a FCU rather than a socket, or better still, install a 2.5mm dedicated radial 0n a 20A MCB. it's quite a heavy load for the rFC when you consider other allpliances as well.

Work in kitchens is notifiable, and there are requirements for bonding and RCD's to be considered so a competent, registered sparky is appropriate.

can you apply diversity to a single oven??

Of course you can!! There are always elements that can't be used at the same time, ...(ie ...grill and main oven) but they are still counted in the manufacturers statement of KW rating...

Plus once the oven is up to temp it will starting switching on/off to maintain the desired temp. Hence applying diversity.

Thanks for all the comments guys....most appreciated. How does the maths look in my original thread? Like the idea of a separate radial(thanks telectrix) but I'm trying to keep away from having to run a separate radial to the consumer unit and therefore if the facility exists (in line with the regs and safe) to utilise the socket outlet and 2.5mm heat resistant into a plug for the single oven then I would rather go with that. Problem is, am i allowed to? I think the regs state that any fixed installation >2kW needs to be hard wired if I remember rightly?

What are your thoughts on the induction hob? Sound ok?

still would go with a separate radial for the oven. be too late to do that after the kitchen is finished and tiled.

@telextrix. Would you consider putting the fridge/freezer on its own radial as well?

As I suspected, the 'jury is out' on fitting the single oven lol. Has anyone fitted a single oven rated at <3kW with 2.5mm heat resistant flex + plug into a socket fed from a 13A FCU? If so and it is permissible in line with the regs, it will make my kitchen install a whole lot easier. I presume no one has any issues with the induction hob on the 32A radial?

i would if i wanted it either non-RCD or on it's own RCBO, but generally not.

I only asked because when helping mate out in the 80's it was something we always did (non rcd or own rcbo) but since I started back into the fold I've not done it once.

Thanks to both for response.

I think you'll find that most <3KW single ovens come with factory fitted cord and 13A plug top these day's!! lol!!

Unfortunately the oven doesn't come with cable or plug (Bosch) which is surprising considering the output power. Presumably, the manufacturer does this deliberately to prevent any possible litigation should anything go wrong.

The oven is supplied without cable or plug. I imagine this is to remove any responsibility of the manufacturer from the electrical installation regardless of the power of the oven. Agree / disagree. I have also seen threads regarding using a 20a DP in place of the FCU but can't see how this will work as will not provide any protection.
