I have recently replaced my old mains (230v) smoke detector with a new one from Siemens (also connected to mains).

The flexible stranded wires for the new smoke detector are silver/aluminum coloured. The same was applicable to the old smoke detector. They look like this:

I just recently found out that you need to be careful with aluminum wiring because of lose connections caused by oxidation.

The stranded wires on the old smoke detector was connected to the mains cable via a connector strip.

When replacing the smoke detector I also replaced the connector strip with some WAGO 221. But according to specs. the WAGO 221 is only approved for copper.

Are the wires for these smoke detectors aluminum or is it just a coating for actual copper?

They are almost certainly tin-plated copper so no special connections needed to deal with galvanic corrosion, etc. Only that they are rated for that size of fine-stranded cable, the likes of leaver-action Wago 221 are fine.

Much appreciated!
