Dear all in electricians forums!

I am looking to retrain as an electrician (domestic, self-employed), and have done lots of research towards what is needed. I am currently working with an electrician to learn the practical side of it, and will be going to college for the qualificaiton side.
However i am confused as to which CPS to join? I have phone NICEIC and ELECSA and have both given me conflicting information.
I would like to be able to certify my own work and other peoples work / old installations. However ELECSA said that this is illegal unless I have employed someone who works under my 'umbrella', and therefore can supervise what he/she is doing, but I am not allowed to certify other peoples work if they are not part of my company.
NICEIC said that as long as i feel that I am okay with putting my name and company on the certification papers, and therefore i am okay with being liable for prosecution if anything goes wrong, then this is ok and legal ??

Can anyone help clarify this or recommend any other CPS? :D

Im with elecsa, Very happy with them.

I cant see why you would want to issue certificates for someone elses electrical installation, You may not really know anything about this install once all the cables are boarded over, cables in zones? dodgy joins?, theres many more regulations that could not be met, or just be very bad workmanship, AND IT WILL BE YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS ON THE CERTIFICATE TO SAY ITS ELECTRICALY SAFE, AND COMPLIANT TO BS7671.. when it easily could not be!

I'd rather just only test my own work and be able to sleep at night...

Also if you did put your name to other peoples work, on your annual assesment you could be asked to go to one of the jobs you didnt do.... and could be asked questions about this perticular job that you know nothig about...

I would have too much to loose by doing this, just not worth it
