Bosch or Makita??

Im after a 240V SDS hammer drill with rotary stop and would like to know which is the best manufacturer to go with. It wont be used day in day out, only occasionally.

Bosch all the way for drilling, Makita are for carpenters ( only joking ) still Bosch every time for me.

i would say most of the time it is personal preference. i have had both and thought they were both great, currently got the 24v makita. i have had the dewalt sets but not been too happy with them.

Given my Bosch GBH 2-26 some rough treatment - not just drilling through walls, chiselling boxes and chases, but also demolishing brickwork/masonry. It has been superb. Comfortable to use, and plenty of power. If it wears out I'll buy another without hesitation.

I can vouch for this one, have had it a year, use it for chopping out and drilling multiple joist etc never let me down and it's quite light so perfect for day in day out use.

both seem reliable (not having owned either). if using for chasing i would say go with the one that has the largest impact energy (bosch i think).
i bought a hitachi recently after the same short list (money was also a consideration at the time) and have been very happy, lots of impact energy (around 3J i think, makita was only 1.7J) so very good for chases.
still going strong and earned its keep as far as i am concerned.

I have recently purchased a Makita 110v sds+ and been very happy with it, Seemed like a good deal with the quick release keyless chuck added, can be changed one handed once you work out to put it on right setting!
