My brother inlaw had his loft converted about 6 years ago. All of his downlights, in the loft conversion ,have been fitted close to rafters, close to insulation and with not the best ventilation around them, some of the lights have signs of over heating. They are not fire rated downlights, and there are about 25 of them. Not sure what the best option is to rectify. Fit hoods, change to led bulbs??? What do you think people. The lights were fitted by a fully approved NICEIC ****. Not by me.

depends on how much you can spend? changing to LED'S will fix the problem at present but will it stop somone else if they move replacing with led bulbs.. etc etc.. most open dowlights ive worked with require 100mm clearance in all directions

Cheepest option you could change to heat forward lamps, still not ideal and should ideally be LED or re plot and re site them all as they should be, might be worth checking the cabling for heat damage as well

best option is LEDs and move the bloody insulation away fro the fittings.

I have taken alot of insulation away, but its quite hard, not being able to get from above. I have suggested re siting them all, but they were not keen on that, even though its the safest option. Plus its the rigid polystyrene insulation, with foil backing. And yes some of the cable has signs of over heating. Thanks for your replies.
