Morning folks...

I put up a cooker hood in my cousins kitchen yesterday and noticed when wiring it in it had no earth cable.

I was in a bit of a hurry and couldn't find the book but I just thought it was a bit weird..

It's one of these metal cased jobs.... (probably not this exact one)

I looked inside and the motor was totally encased in plastic but I still thought it was a bit weird as the unit itself is completely brushed steel or ali or summink..

I earthed the case anyway just to be sure even though there was no sign saying this had to be done... Maybe in the book though but I didn't have that.

No need to bond it if it says 'Double insulated'.
It can be argued that you have made it less safe by bonding it.
I've fitted 2 of these in the last month, one I terminated the earth wire in the fused connector unit, the other had a junction box after the FCU, so I terminated the earth there. No need at all to run a separate earth wire to the unit.
I am presuming they only had 2 core flex to connect them?
Alan.
