We are shooting a bit in the dark.
Is there an element of 'humming' to the ticking? A failed 2 way or 3 way hot water / heating valve is a possibility.
Maybe a good first question is "What is behind your bathroom wall?". Is it an airing cupboard?

Could be plumbing related, the ticking due to expansion and contraction the vibration due to water hammer.

Guess work really without more info.
