Hey all I've was asked to look at some faulty external lights so after some investigation I discovered that they had been poorly installed, basically the fittings were never sealed correctly, compression glands not tight and water ingress has occurred. I'm going to remove the fittings, dry them out and replace the water damaged transformers, my question is what do you guys find is the most reliable IP compression gland and can any of you guys recommend any decent weatherproof connectors instead of using bog standard connector block. I know that if the fittings are sealed correctly then connector should suffice but I would just like to belt and braces to ensure the reliability of the lights once they are installed.

Also, I have some extra lights to install, to which I will be installing SWA to junction boxes then pond flex to fittings, which junction box / method do you guys find the most reliable to use with regards to preventing water ingress. Do most of you use silicone insulating gel to seal around glands and inside any connector boxes?

Without knowing what type of light fittings you are referring to no-one can give you an accurate answer. As far as compression glands go, the IP variety will normally have the IP rating embossed on the gland somewhere. I always prefer to use flanged IP rated compression glands myself. I'd be looking at IP X6 or higher...
