I have a Neff cooker hood which obviously needs wiring in. The cable is fitted with a 3 pin plug. The cable exits the top of the hood very close to where the ductwork also exits the top. When I fit the ducting covers the cable will be inside this. so either I drill the ducting cover, which I am not keen on or the cable and plug at some point enter the ceiling void. I did think about putting a socket on the upstairs floorboards, but knowing my luck the plug would fall out. Cannot recall my last hood but is it normal for them to have a plug or do most people just cut it off and wire by some other method than into a socket?

If there is a vertical chimney above the hood, then often a power outlet will be provided in this chimney, maybe a little off-centre to avoid being directly behind ducting. With either a single socket, or switched FCU depending on preference (some manufacturers like to scare their customers that they will void any guarantee if they cut the plug off).

I think you are spot on there. Looking at the drawings of how to install the thing I could not understand the circle I have arrowed. Obvious now after your comments that it is meant to be a socket. Pity they make no mention of it in the instructions. Many thanks.
