Hi all can anyone explain how to carry out fault finding on a ring main using the splitting the ring technique.

Other than splitting a socket and testing each way do you have to do anything in the consumer unit, ie do you leave the wires in the circuit breakers and bus bars or do you split them as well?

Thanks very much chris

Split the circuit at the DB, and also at what you think is the mid point socket! Joint between conductors you need, and test away. Just think of it as 2 radials! Then once youve narrowed it down to which side of the ring, split it again and work from there!
