Hi all

Anyone in the Hull area might be interested in a free 2394/2395 course! I phoned Hull Collage on Thursday to speak about my apprentice and while I was on the phone they told me about funding etc. It's for firms with less than 250 employees, already passed the number on to my mate and he's signed up too. I was looking to do them anyway as my 2391 is 15 years old! Only thing is its night classes Where my preference is block courses, saved me £900.00 though. Happy days

If you have your 2391 then you don't need the 2394/5 buddy. Regardless thanks for the info, I will look into it.

Your C&G 2391 is probably worth more than the newer and easier to pass C&G 2394/95. If you want to improve yourself, then go down the C&G 2396-20 design course. For the life of me i can't see the reasoning behind holding a duplicate qualification?? Totally beyond me?? ...lol!!

Its free and it proberley won't be long before the 2391 isn't recognised just like all those blokes who did 2360 or old fashion apprenticeships and have been doing the Job 25 years ago and now can't "according to the JIB" can't call themselves electricians.

Anyway I've lost my cert and it's £35 for a replacement.

Im with you there and I dont intend to upgrade my 2391 but unfortunately in the not too distant future I can see that when you go for a job holding the 2391 the young admin girl or HR associate will not recognise it. I can hear a response along the lines of, "my employment handbook says the only inspection qualification is C&G blah, blah, blah, it doesnt mention a 2391, that must be an old qualification that isnt valid anymore!"

Luckily Im waiting to be put out to pasture but for the "youngish" electricians still with mortgages and kids to feed they may well be forced into upgrading. Ching, ching, I can hear a cash cow being milked somewhere ........

well..its more than just that though isn`t it...

someone now wants to take up a place gaining what is essentially a newer version of a qual he has held for (by his own admission) 15 years.....selfish and greedy if you ask me..

to the OP:

thanks for the info but dont you think the right thing to do would be to move aside and let others take this opportunity to gain this qual and improve themselves.....or was it a case of `lets see how many likes n thanks this little number will generate`?

I don't see that happening now with older C&G qualifications, most of which are generally held in higher esteem than those qualification numbers that replaced them. So if my indentured apprenticeship and qualification without any NVQ/AM2 (weren't needed or even thought about) is still recognized after 40+ years, i can't see as anyone having a problem.

Out of interest, can anyone think of any C&G qualification course, that bettered the course number it replaced?? Personally i can't, but i'm open to be To be persuaded otherwise.

To be honest, all i'm seeing these days, are many additional courses, in some cases with ridiculous level status. that were at one time part and parcel of the core qualification course....

I don't think it's a daft move, it's like updating yourself as you can guarantee 2391 won't be recognised for certain things in time to come. Taking a free course regardless of wether you have the older qualification is a no brainier to me! If 2391 does get outdated he's just saved himself £900, if he hasn't then he hasn't lost out on anything apart from a bit of time!

Using that sort of inept thinking, perhaps you should also go back and undertake the 2360/2330 courses again, ....because they are 15+ years old.

In other words it's a ''NO BRAINER'' that you're time is far better spent, obtaining a qualification that you DON'T hold!!! eg ...it's called IMPROVING yourself, ....rather than be in standing still mode!!

So someone tries to give a pointer to a free course and you accuse of him of just doing it for likes and thanks??!! You may as well say that to anyone who tries to offer help at any time. Daz
