Discuss Free Domestic Electric Vehicle Charging Points --- are they a legitimate company? in the Electric Vehicles Advice Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I live in the Birmingham area and have just been canvassed by a company called Neugen. Nuegen say they have been given the government contract for the area, and it is part of the Green Deal.

Their leaflet states: 'Neugen is working in conjunction with PES and Government/OLEV approved manufacturers and suppliers of Electric Vehicle Charging Points.

... we are able to offer FREE domestic EVCP to everyone with or without an electric vehicle.

Subject to site assesment'

(Their wrong spelling not mine!)

Web: Neugen

Tel: 0115 758 8000

There is nothing about it on the website. I rang the office number and spoke to someone called Mo. He said the information would be on the website by the end of the week. This would include testimonials from people who live in Nottingham who have recently had these installations. He said he would ring me back to confirm that there would be no cost, but did not do so.

Has anyone had any experience of this, or has got any information. It sounds too good to be true, but I have found some general references to this scheme on the OLEV website.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Heard an ad on the radio today, to that effect, i.e. free. I was thinking more on the lines of fitting them, could be a tidy side-line.

I just can not see how it could be part of the GD as it is basically an overpriced loan that you pay back from the savings of installing an energy saving measure, a new efficient boiler for example.

What type of new circuit? I'm about to have solar panels installed. Will this be an issue? Also, what's a 3G meter? I know I can get 3G Internet on my phone. Thanks for the advice. Any more appreciated. I'm not an electrician.

Solar will have be on own circuit breaker, so would be good idea to a two or 5 way board fitted either by solar or EV socket installer to cater for both. Meter is for monitoring the usage of the socket and part of the free deal. Ask installer to use 6mm2 cable for socket. 16amp sockets will be replaced by 32amp in a few years. This will save on future expense when being altered.
