Am i allowed to install a radial circuit that supplies 1 single and 1 double socket in a garage with 1.5mm cable?

It is unsheathed cable in plastic conduit (ref method B). From the BRB this has a Current Carrying Capacity of 17A. It is on a 16A MCB and the load it supplies will be a freezer and maybe small power tools.

Discriminataion has been achieved but is this allowed?

Thanks

If the CCC of the cable is 17A (as you say) and it is protected by a 16A breaker, then I don't see a reason why not.!

I would however use 2.5mm cable myself.

Is there a particular reason why you are planning on using 1.5mm?

Not already installed but i have plenty of 1.5mm left from doing the lighting circuit. If it has to be 2.5mm ( to conform with the BRB and the inspector) then i will buy some 2.5mm.

Well if it were myself I would either try the circuit on a 10amp, with the expectation that it will trip now and then. Or more ideally use 2.5mm. ;)

Not sure where you would stand on this.....1.5mm is permitted to supply sockets on a ring or radial fused at 32/20 when subfused at a max of 13a via an FCU.....the arrangement you propose would not come under these standard circuit arrangements. Even though 1.5mm would appear to comply fused at 16a ,I would either run it through an FCU if you really want to use 1.5mm or do it properly in 2.5mm.

Thanks everyone. I will go for the 2.5mm option cos as wirepuller has said the BRB does say you need a 13A FCU to use 1.5mm ( didn't see that before !! )

Thanks again. :)

That would be with a CU fuse of 20 or 32a though....a 16a is a bit of a grey area, you are right to go with 2.5mm IMHO.
