I'm curious to hear how people deal with plastic roof lights when they are working on industrial style trapezoidal roofs. Do you barrier them off? Leave them and net below? Board over them?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

barrier them off mate as you don't want clowns falling through them...

and before any one goes on the roof give them a FULL safety brief and hazard awareness induction to ensure they know the dangers and at the end get them to sign a disclaimer that they have been briefed and know the dangers...! that way they cant take you to court for negligence.....

Barrier them off is my thought also - although it is difficult to do on some jobs where the panels come up close them.

If you board or barrier, whoever does that will need harnesses and netting under.
Then whoever does the netting will need harnesses on a picker with air bags below.
Isn't H & S wonderful.:13:

Substantial barrier, not easy move fold up, would seem best.
If you board over you'd need to barrier to warn of the boards.??

But they'd then need barriers for maintenance later.

One of the last jobs we undertook before taking a break from installing , was a 50kw on one of these roofs .
We netted , harnessed and then fixed 20 or so sheets of 3/4 inch shuttering ply over the roof lights , for the duration of the job .
Bloody expensive , but piece of mind !

surely the point of netting is that you don't need harnesses, and vice versa.

and if you've netted every window you don't need to shutter it anyway.

Gavin A , You have obviously never had the pleasure of actually testing a net before then !

Thanks for the info and the link.

It seems to be that the best option is to barrier around them if practical - and if not, netting will suffice.

Use road mesh over them, it doesn't need fixing down due to wind and you will never go through it, cheap from builders merchants and easily moveable between skylights.
