i amk just looking at getting mine. £100k - 250k seems to be the norm.

ooooo that's asking.... Depends on the work you do really!

We have 1M but test some impressive buildings most have about £250,000 .

If your not doing testing that much probably less.

Have a look at this Thread

The requirement is £250K

Napit and NICEIC are asking for 250K

Napit only do £500K as standard
Where NICEIC only do £250K As standard

Of course they both do more

Somewhat along the lines of the original question, if you're doing general domestic and small commercial work including EICRs, do you actually need PI insurance?

I'm not against insurance (I have £2M public liability) where I can see a need, eg drill through pipe and flood the place, or faulty cable joint and start a fire.

Has anyone here ever claimed on PI insurance? Does anyone know of any electrician who has ever claimed on PI insurance? Can anyone think of a specific circumstance where a claim could reasonably be made?

Any thoughts?

Different I know but get the picture:

When I was delivering First Aid to bystanders you would get the odd clown try and do everything a Paramedic can do (drugs, canulate, etc)

Family then turn around and try and claim on you because someone died.

You then have to rely on others on the course to say that you didn't teach those things on the course.

You do a PAT on some equipment and but forget to test something - someone dies because the machine fails and they get electrocuted or the office catches fire.

Very unlikely but we are all humans and humans make mistakes - just look at that ferry disaster.

Something a little more realistic

We are all here giving advice to other electricians and DIYers.

If they follow that advice and someone is killed or the house catches fire because they did something slightly different (like wrong MCB) for example because several people have different opinions.

They would be able to claim on your PI.

Same as if you gave advice to a mate over the phone and something happened.

Im not saying dont give advice, but watch what advice you do give - but I dont need to tell anyone that
