How to certify work for inspection before joining Napit or Elecsa?

Afternoon All,

I am qualified to C&G 236 1 and 2 from along time ago! I also meet the criteria for both elecsa and Napit Part P schemes but I am a little confused by the requirement to get an example of my work tested and certified by someone else before the inspection that allows me to join the competent person schemes.
Any advice gratefully received.

I'm not in any schemes but have seen the answer to this many times on here.
You do the job, prior to your Scheme inspection, then notify after the inspection.

They’ll probably want to see 2 circuits that you’ve installed. They may let you do the job close to your assessment and then notify afterwards once you’ve passed.

Failing that, you’ll have to go through your local LABC and notify through them prior to being assessed.

Technically you should notify your LABC before you start the job, most are ok with this and woN’t ask you pay up front, but some do unfortunately, if you pass your assessment, you then have 30 days from the date you completed the work to notify via your CPS provider. NICEIC/Elecsa accept a consumer unit changed on your own property, not sure what Napit’s requirements are.

There is no such requirement.

Many thanks for your reply. Elecsa say this regarding registration. 'The purpose of the site assessment is for you to show your work meets the industry standards and regulations for that work. The sites you present must be representative of the work you normally do, complies with Part P and been completed within the last 12 months. They should be fully installed, tested and certificated.' Does that mean I can certify the installation even though I am not a registered part P installer?

Of course, part P has nothing to do with the certification of the work. Certification is a BS7671 matter and as long as you are competent you can do it.

The only thing you cannot do until you are registered with the CPS is notify LABC via the CPS.

Seems to be a common thing, the difference between certifying and notifying.

It’s simple

change your own consumer unit & add a socket somewhere in your house.
i did it this way as did a friend of mine

We did similar for our approved contractor assessment, replaced DB in the workshop/office and wired the new office and a bunch of workshop sockets.
