Hi all,

As context, I am a DIY-er. I am trying to change a ceiling light fixture and I just want to double check my approach before I do it to make sure I am not being stupid somehow! Firstly, I know I will need to turn the electrics off and test the light for voltage before I do this (just to pre-empt that thought).

The light fixture I currently have up is a fluorescent tube fixture. There is a single cable coming down from the ceiling has red, black and green/yellow wires.

The fixture I want to change it to is an LED ceiling light with a wooden surround. (bought here).

Is it as simple as connecting the live, neutral and earth wires coming down from the ceiling cable to the respective equivalents in the light housing, or am I missing something? Also, I don't quite know what the two wires are that are coming out of the LED light's wire housing.

Perhaps I need to get a professional for this, but I slightly balk at the idea of paying a call out fee for something that seems like it should be really pretty easy.

Any help and advice would be amazing!

Thanks,

Pete

Seems odd they have seemingly put a pre-wired cable in with no earth. Can you actually access the terminals with the wood surround on or does it come off.

The wood surround comes off. The two wires coming out of the new fixture confuse me. I could remove them and just insert the wires coming from the ceiling cable into the housing they come out of, but wanted to check before I went ahead and did that.

That is exactly what you need to do.

I think professional electricians can pinpoint and fix electrical issues and they will safely resolve the problem, saving you time and money.

A little late to the party….

Would it be too much to ask what the instructions say about connections? My daughter is learning mandarin, so may be able to translate….😆
