Hi again all, I started college a few weeks late so im a bit behind with the practical assessments

The tutor has said he will draw some diagrams with me next time im there to help me catch up

I thought id give it a go myself at home so just wondering if somebody can tell me if this is correct ?

The question was to draw up a one way lighting circuit using the junction box method

Thanks very much

Matt

That looks as if it would work but I don't understand the need for a jb as the ceiling rose has a loop terminal for perm feed.

Thanks for the reply Sintra, to be honest I think thats whats throwing me a bit, here is the worksheet from college and the exercise :

Or should I be using a different type of ceiling rose if there is such a thing ? To be honest I went in the drawer at college and they all had the loop terminals so I presumed all ceiling roses were the same

Thanks again

Matt

I see what you are up against lol and what you have done is correct according to the information you where given.

All ceiling roses as far as I am aware have the loop connection and personally I wouldn't use a jb on the circuit. Again in my day it was referred to as a 3 plate wiring system but then again times change lol.

Looks OK to me Matt.
You need to add your L, N & E (loop feed) into and out of the JB.

Thanks Sintra and Archy, appreciated as always, ill get there eventually lol !

Can I ask a question, why cant I just have the loop feed cable going to each ceiling rose on the circuit, and a seperate cable going from the ceiling rose to the light switch for the switched live ?

I dont see the point in the junction box or am I missing something ?

Thanks

Matt

Exactly the way I was taught to do it. That jb is just an optional extra that serves no purpose apart from potential headaches later on.

Just reading through this thread, and Sintra has served you well OP.

I too cannot seem to understand why they're teaching you to do it like that :/ They must be method in the madness.

He certainly has mark !

well im there tonight so will ask him and let you know the answer he gives me

thanks

also ask him if he intends using a MF JB.

This was also my thoughts, it doesn't make sense to add an unnecessary junction box.

Agreed the JB is not needed, however you are likely to find stuff like this in many domestic lighting circuits so i suppose its good to know what you are looking at etc.

Only just seen this message tel so couldnt ask him that

''I asked him about the junction boxes and he said ''They used this method before the loop wiring was introduced, and in case splitting off was ever needed

Although this method is no longer used, you will still find it quite often in domestic properties so its just something to know incase you ever come across it''

Cheers

Matt

Thats basically what he told me Simon

You are missing something! if you dont get training on all the different lighting circuits, how would you fare in a few years time if you came across and install that had JB's everywhere?

Cheers.............Howard
