Isolation of Ring Final Circuit

Here's one for you. In a foster home for naughty boys the client has a requirement to be able to "remove privileges" of TVs/PCs etc when necessary. They seek a means of doing this without having to get staff to use the Distribution Board. Would a DP switch of the correct capacity be the best solution. Are there any other considerations?

Pull cord mounted outside of a lockable door should do the job.

Go in naughty boy's room, remove TV/PC/xbox, leave naughty boy's room, lock removed items in cupboard. Mission accomplished. Expenditure, a little bit of time.

If a new circuit I would install 4mm2 radials to the rooms on 20 amp circuits and have double pole metal vandleproof key switches outside the rooms so the carers can turn off that actual room without affecting any other rooms, is the circuit already in? or is this a new job?

Er not realy as if a switch where fitted at any distance from the board the circuit would in effect be a cross wired radial !!!!

A FCU and a 20A dp secret switch feeding the items would work.
switching the whole ring main is more involved.

if you only isolated 1 leg of the rfc, the little buggers would still get half a picture on the telly.

DP switch 20a at a point you can get both legs together,(not the boys legs) just switch the Live on each leg.

Anyway they stream tv now and all the devices are rechargeable so they will still need removing.Don't tell me this home is local authority funded and we are all paying for this convoluted aversion crap...

You could install a lockable rotary isolator in the circuit, is it a ring final Or radial?

Take the ring final circuit out the distribution board and feed it via a contactor and use a normal switch to control it.

I would agree on the contactor, however they want to isolate individual rooms, I suspect there is a ring supplying several bedrooms and they have a naughty kid in one who they want to punish by removing his tv priviliges, killing the whole ring would affect others, best to install a new radial to the room and have it going through a key switch somewhere, by the way is this child cruelty? lol

theres another option here.....
hybrid circuit....that way both legs of the ring are isolated....from a single point....

Just trip the breaker, then all the rooms go off. The kid who messed up, has now punished the rest for his actions, will now get a good hiding off the rest. This happens a couple of times they realise dont mess up, or others will #uck your ---- up.:wink5:
