You cant deny that the abilities of a Electrical Trainee on site are lacking in comparison to a time served spark. Nobody can tell me different, It isnt about reading the 17th edition everyday, experience comes from having read the 16th and maybe the 15th and passing this down to an apprentice that over 4 years took it in and developed in.

I understand the reasons for a career change etc etc and I am not knocking it as such, however you really need to know your place in the industry and that in my eyes would be a 'mate' at best.

Very well put I totally agree, your post highlights a few things

1. The 1984 Orwellian attitude that appears to have been adopted with the introduction of the 17th edition regs that old regs are bad new regs are good, in the days of the 14th ed regs I remember signing off a PIR as compliant with the 12th edition even though these were superseded well before I started in the trade

2. That a quick course does not provide the breadth of knowledge required to produce a good well trained electrician
