Hi,

I have done my 2330 level 1 & 2, 17th and 2391, however i have not done my NVQ Level 3. I have been working as an electrician for 9 years, most of which is domestic and partly commercial.

I was thinking of doing my 2356 course with Delta, as i thought this would give me my level 3 and make me fully qualified.

Would this be the right course to do, or do i need to do my AM2 aswell?
Not that i would ever need it, but if i was to apply for a JIB card, am i right in thinking i would not be able to get a full one, unless i did this course?

Thanks

Jel, I was in a similar situation. I used Delta to do my 2356 Nvq 3 and then applied for the JIB card.

I applied for grading with them as I had not sat the AM2 either.

I think without NVQ 3 JIB will grade you as a Labourer.

The registration for 2356 finishes very soon to make way for the 2357 in which the AM2 is a mandatory part.

If you can get the 2356 then no AM 2 required.
I had my NVQ 3 wrapped up in around 8 weeks. ( 3 jobs with 3 different wiring systems and 3 different types of containment)

No site visits as I had my technical certificates 2351. As you have 2330 I would assume you would be in the same boat.

I'm in the same boat here only just a few differences

I have been working as a spark now for approx. 16 years. I did a JIB apprenticeship but I have never had a JIB card grading myself as an electrician, as I never completed my NVQ level 3. I successfully completed both my AM1 and AM2 and achieved credits and distinctions in my 2361 and 2362 and I also have the 2382.

To be honest not being in possesion of a JIB card has never hindered me in any way (only asked for it once) so I have never been that bothered about it. But recently I've been thinking of getting work overseas and think having the card would be beneficial so I need to get my NVQ level 3. What is the best way/organisation to go about doing this? Any feedback welcome guys!

no am2 for adults doing the nvq 2356 but I believe the new 2357 Will require all to do the AM2 so if your going to do the nvq nows the time before it migrates into the 2357 and knowing C&G it will be a headache mapping quals over from 2330 and 236 etc. no site visits are needed if you do it on line just find a spark with relevant quals to whitness your work for you and jobs done, btw the spark witnessing does not need to have jib card. I have seen a few witnessed by plumbers and other trades but some assessors will not accept that so dont rely on other trades being able to whitness it for you

Hi Phil

alright mate

I asked my assessor and he said it would need to be a electrician as they would know the jargon unlike a plumber ,customer etc

No site visits as I had my technical certificates 2351.

There are still site visits - it's to do with the NVQ portfolio rather than the technical certificate, but doing the 2351 in Knowledge of Electrical Installation Engineering does not preclude site visits.

No site visits in my case buddy. Why would I say any different?

Maybe each provider has a different criteria?

Hi, i'm 34 and I have 2330 Levels 2 and 3, I'm doing the 17th 1st amendment now, but have not got the NVQ3 or have done the AM2. from what I can gather from the JIB website, their requirements for a "time served" electrician states that if I have all of these certs except the NVQ3, that I can apply for a qualified electrician gold card. Can anyone clarify this for me? I have been working for over 10 years in the industry. It appears the NVQ3 is being stopped due to the new 2357 coming in? how do you complete the course of study without it?

Hi mate when the new 2357 which is a combination of the 2330 and 2356 nvq comes in your provider should be able to cross match your quals over to the NEW2357 which will jsut leave you with the NVQ element to do but i also believe dont hold me to it that there is a new renewables unit you would prob have to complete
or register on the NVQ LV3 2356 Now before it ends i think its july 31st it should have ended march 31st 2011 as shold the 2330 but they changed there minds on the last day and extended to july this year

there are some private providers were you can do it al on line one is delta training and another XS training who i am doing mine with
there may be others and colleges are still running it as mine is at my college its about £690
I paid £780 as when i enrolled i didnt have technical cert only 2391 17th etc
now i am also doing the 2330 lv3

some of the lv1 students have jsut been told they cant complete to lv2 and 3 and would have to get employment in industry to go on the new 2357 so all people retraining etc will find it impossible to get on the new 2357 with a college as its mainly aimed at 16-19 yr olds who want apprenticeship as these are the only ones whose courses will be funded or part funded with employer

Hi Mate do you not know any JIB sparks as this is what you need to sign your witness statements etc

Or speak to Delta to see if something could be arranged or look at XS training
good luck mate its not realy a good system the C&G quals

I just posted on a thred on another forum.
Apparently the JIB are now asking for the NVQ3 for renewals.
That's going to be a bugger when mine runs out in 2014.
