You turn up to a job and its a total scum pit, or the job is a total ball ache or you just plain get the nose twitching that the customers going to be a total pain, or all of the above

whats your usual way of not getting the job?

just tell them straight?

over price?

text message?

ignore all communication until they eventually go away?

Got a job where the customer is literally harassing me to do the job, first i well over priced(i got it anyway), then i said i was too busy for the next two months(they say they will wait for me!), now ive resorted to just ignoring their calls but they just wont get the message, i should of just come out with it straight at the beginning and told them they live like animals and the jobs a nightmare

So ifyou have one, whats your proven exit strategy? when you really dont want the work!

I never really had that problem, doing mainly industrial, however on the odd occasion that I did get a nasty one I always found that going in with a high price and then a long wait before I can get around to it as "I'm extremely busy and to be honest I don't really need the work,to be fair you're probably better phoning around as I'm sure there's plenty of people who could do it cheaper than me and a lot sooner".Worked every time.

On my first I&T job I was giving a long list of addresses and sent on my way.
A large proportion got marked down as not done due to no access.
No way was I going to bother attempting them with state of the property or the clientele loitering around on the doorstep.
And many others I wish I'd driven on by! :-(

Industrial wise, I don't mind the shytiest hell holes, doesn't bother me, I just can't stand human/animal waste! :puke:

your first mistake is putting a price in lol , now theyve accepted youre on a sticky wicket

my strategy in getting out of a job that looks pony is to call them back a few days later and tell them ive accepted a long term contract out of town.
dont go as far as putting in a price no matter how high , cos yours might be the only bid ! lol

You have to take the ruff and the smooth....not all jobs are going to be in a well lite central heated places. Personally I would never turn any job down, would get subs in to help, if it was to bad. Reputation is everything in this game

yes human waste takes it to another level, sub it out

Call them and tell them the original quote has expired and send a require for double the original. If you still get it sub out and still make money.

Bit difficult camerabloke, that is unless they are clairvoyant lol:66:

i've told one that i'd had a heart attack (true), and could no longer take on the more physical mauling work.

Already got piles lol

Here's an idea, grow a set and tell them the reasons why you cannot do the job.If it is not miles away,do it in person or at the least by phone. People may not want or like to hear these things but they WILL respect the fact you did. This action will also serve as a safety function the next time you turn up to quote for a job,and realise you don't want it... I do not consider myself to be rude, disrespectful or arrogant, but,i have told potential customers i will not be undertaking a job for loads of reasons, including insanitary conditions, historical bad payers and having poorly disciplined offspring...I have,at present, touch wood,no outstanding bills or any disputes so it may be working....

Make sure it's twice your usual rate and pay someone else to do it!

That, or take PEG's advice. :smilielol5:
