Thought I might post here, save upsetting anyone. Following on from the latest thread where an 'electrician' has done some dodgy work, aka 'New Consumer Unit Installation - L&N reversed at the sockets' thread;

'He kicked himself for not having checked for polarity reversal prior to the CU installation and he maintains that he reinserted the tails as they were oriented in the previous fuse box. But he refused to insist that was the case accepting that he may have inadvertently made the mistake and was much humbled and chastened that either he caused it and/or he left it that way (whoever caused it originally). As soon as the tails were swapped my wee socket tester responded well with three lights flashing! The electrician used a number of different testing devices.
For the next few hours there was a lot of testing and form filling.
The form was completed on his tablet and he emailed it to me before he left: It is a Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate (Requirements for Electrical Installations - BS7671 Wiring Regulations). A 6 page document with lots of details which I will peruse thoroughly when I have more time.
The electrician apologised profusely for his errors of testing and not paying sufficient significance to the L&N reversal'.

This reply reminded me of this sketch;

In a nutshell,excellent and relevant choice :D

I still think that that the OP of the original thread was holding something back and you were probably correct in your assumption to some extent.

What sort of householder would go out and buy a socket tester.. why???

Something does not add up!

is he bertie bassett then?

Why would you coherently defend a spark that could of kill him/Family... He was using "spark" as a red herring. I definitely think "He" OP done the job and effed up.

I thought exactly that from the outset,I could not for the life of me understand any other motive for specifically going to the trouble at this time of buying a socket tester

He was given the answer to his probable tails cock up and spent the weekend trying to construct some sort of garbage to present as if it was the electricians and then failed miserably with that
It does not annoy me if people want to play with electrics in their own home,what annoys is telling blatant porkies and dissing people who went out of their way to assist

Guess he dug a hole, that he thought he couldn't climb out of. Whilst he seemed comfortable with endangering himself and possibly others in his family, he's probably troubled by the fact he possibly needs a building warrant for the CU replacement.

My little understanding on Scottish regs, he needs one for replacing a CU in a tenement/flat? Perhaps he's more concerned about that and a possible fine, if the Scots are enforcing this more so than down south.
