Had a pretty frustrating day...Electrical forman on site, asks why we are running 20mm galv conduit on the site, stated to protect the fire alarm cable. He tells our guys their doing it all wrong, there is not need to run fp200 in conduit, normal fire proof LSF singles are good enough for the job, and your spacing sould be 400mm between fixings and there are far too many inspection bends, and so on with more advice, As asked do you mean Pf100 singles, as it would be pointless due to cost, his said no LSF singles are fire proof...!!.....in the end I had to state "at least we are using containment....you have clip all your cables to a 1800m sq ceiling, and thrown you cables across the false ceilings with no support or containment at all" His reply was short "Well theres not enough money on the job to install trunking or tray" In 25 years, Ive never come across someone so irriating.....Not your usual Electrician

Sounds more like a workey ticket to me......you do get them from time to time. If you did the install to the spec you was given, then tell him were to go..lol

He was put in his place....but comments like this on a site, make contractors worried....Our final commissioning will show the result. Myself I would have thaught that the electrical cabling should be in containment aswell

ask him who is signing the certs. when he dithers, ask him if he wants to. when he dithers again. tell him that you have seen more intelligence lurking at the bottom of your pond and don't bother talking to you again unless he is asking you if you would like a cup of tea. my god these idiots drive me nuts.

I hope this is not a ''Spec'd'' job?? Because that last Foreman's comment "Well theres not enough money on the job to install trunking or tray" would of had him off the job, permanently!!

Having said that, i haven't allowed inspection elbows and Tee's on any project for donkey's years now. I can't remember when i've last seen a specification that doesn't actually state, that the use of metallic conduit inspection fittings will not be acceptable!! The bloody things can rip/slice the insulation clean off the conductors...

My favourite reently was a decorator telling me he was SURE capping was so you could find cables with a detector after plastering. He was SURE.

I left him with the plastic capping conundrum

I once had a plasterer tell me the reason you use capping is so that if you drill into a cable, right, then you see a little corkscrew of white PVC swarf come out of the drill hole from the capping, and thus you immediately stop drilling as you know a cable is there! Truly amazing.
