A while go i was asked to take a look at some sockets at the owner believed he had no CPCs in any of them (he did).
The house was pretty old 1920s-30s. The cable was in in old red/black colours, outer diameter was larger than standard solid core 2.5/1.5mm but i would say smaller than 4mm, but with lots of very fine strands (too many to count easily). Is anyone familiar with this cable and what size it could be? i should have taken a pic but didnt have my phone/camera. might be i havent given enough info.

These are old imperial sizes, there are a couple of threads about working out the sizes. In your case I would be more concerned about giving the circuit a full test if its 1920's /30's cable.

7/029 is the equivalent of 2.5mm but is more closer to 3mm really

7/036 is the equivalent of 4mm and is just slightly over so more easy to recognise.

Thanks for the replies.

The clients havent been in the property very long and new nothing of the state of the electrics.
I recommended a periodic inspection/test and a guy to do it but they didnt want to take me up on that, they were only worried about lack of CPCs in the fittings, "we dont have any earths, weve looked" - Quote. Being recently qualified i am not confident with periodics especially v.old stuff hence my recommendation for someone else to do the periodic. I did agree however to check a few fittings for general condition as a good will gesture, hence the query.

A good sign of your quality of work, you could have had a go at it but decided not to and then give the option to the customer for another spark to do a PIR, well done.
