Hi all,
I'm new to the forum so please bare with me if i'm in the worng place. Great forum BTW!
I've spoken with a number of "experts" and there seems to be much confusion wih this....
I have an outbuilding which is approx 40m from the main house. Power has been fed to the building from the main house and it has its own fusebox.
I now want to run CAT5 cable for broadband and phoneline but what do I need?
Some say CAT5 in conduit, others say just external CAT5 on its own and some say it must be SWA.
Also people have suggested its dangerous because of lightining strikes (I think we get about 3 a year in Dorset!). They mentioned something about it being dangerous to run copper between two buildings that are earthed differently or something!?
The majority of the cable will run underground but about a 1 metre section will run up a wall, so overground.
Do I need surge protectors to make it safe?
Many thanks in advance.
