Hi folks, have too price a periodic on a bowling alley, only in service for five years. 285 circuits, this includes sub-mains and earthing. Should I cost per shift or per circuit??:)

I would go for Per Circuit, as you could end up working for nothing if you go per shift. But i suppose it all depends on your level of experience and other things.

Cheers.......Howard

Absolutely per circuit, your client won't want to have an open ended cost.

If the installation is only 5 years old then it should be in pretty good order and you'll have a good chance of sourcing drawings and schedules etc.

If you can't find documentation, contact the original installer, we do that quite often and it usually turns up at least an EIC.

all schedules are available laminated and tucked inside each consumer unit. Now next thing is, is there a going rate for per circuit prices. I was thinking £25. Based on 1 hour per circuit. Some light fittings will be difficult to reach. Some fittings will be easy e.g. sockets, motors.
I would have a mate aswell for holding ladders resetting rcd`s writing results. Is this a reasonable price.£7125?

£25/hour, have you allowed any cash for your mate?, or are you sharing the £25??

might not take quite an hour?? you think more? just looking for any thoughts thanks.

The going rate is between £7 and £40 per circuit and that's the decision you need to make based on working hours (is this nightshift), your overheads, ease of job, detailed inspection percentage and your experience of periodic inspections.

If the installation is new (5 years) and schedules are available then you'll find 1 hour per circuit is very generous.

Don`t you think you still have to do all tests on all circuits. It will take the same time, wether the schedules are available or not. Sound advice tho.

at the rate you are propossing you will be there one month !
cant see them wearing it myself
i would think 3k absolute max, but if you can get it good on you

Yes, do all tests on all circuits but what percentage of dismantling are you allowing for?

Believe me, periodic inspections are my life these days and accurate schedules make a MASSIVE difference to your time!

I think when I dismantle for the tests I`ll get a better idea of workmanship. That would determine if I go with more dismantling. Thats why I thought 1 hour per circuit so that I am covered.

like IQ says schedules are ACE IF you have them also remember that a lot of circuits will be radial single items and wont take 15mins let alone an hour eg Hand dryers Boiler, bowling machines, ect ect when counting circuits IMO 3ph circuit counts as 3no single circuits ( most of the big per circuit companys charge that way )

remember you have Limitations like some lights ,over height , Ze , (great if you can get it but most cant due to seals 0 Also the standard set of Limitations are listed on NICEIC certs ie no ability to check under floors confined spaces ect
even though its 5 years old ASSUME mr Handyman has been at work and check the schedules it can be daunting your first big PIR remember you are there to test only (Unless you include code 1s found at extra cost) agree a spend limit with client and USE it Dont get to involved if working down the schedule and a circuit isnt obvious leave it off Someone will come n say the XYZ isnt working theres your curcuit Enjoy and good luck

When looking at the job. One consumer unit was filthy. dirty mits all over it .Clearly using breakers as general switches. Do you think some switches should be added. Am i right in saying breakers should not be used by staff in this way?

Can a BS 60898/61009 device be used as a functional switch?

You are the inspector....

good luck hope you get the job i usually charge 18 20 pound per circut so if you can get 25 fair play let us no if you win the job might put my prices up

company came in at £2500 per premises. 1 year contract to do all their premises. i think there are 11 or 12 nationwide. cant compete with that.
