Hi, my brother has recently purchased a new house. He asked me to look at the consumer unit. It is an old wired fuse unit that needs replacing. It has 2 lighting circuits(U and D). Two sockets (U and D) and a 40A shower, but the shower fuse has been looped with a 40A RCCB (modern version, because couldn't fit into old unit). So obviously the electric shower has been fitted recently but the guy couldn't be bothered to update the entire unit. I haven't done a foreigner job in a while and know that the regs are always changing, so forgive me if this sounds stupid, but do all electric showers need to be fitted with a RCCB or can I just put it on a 40A MCB?
Thanks
Drew

Welcome to the forum. Are you a sparks?

If you're planning on fitting a new consumer unit, you should know that in a domestic property all circuits need to be 30mA RCD protected (with a few exceptions). If you're not aware of this, I suggest that you shouldn't be touching the job yourself. It will also need notifying to LABC.
