Hello to all of you out there, I'm interested in your opinions on a testing matter.I was doing tests at a small office today and one of the appliances was a shredder, one of the larger types, about 3 ft tall with a main body made from a contiboard type material and the shredder unit sat on top.It was a German make with CE markings. The label with the power ratings etc did not show a double insulated icon, so I had to treat it as a class 1.The detachable iec power lead was 3 core. When I took a look inside, I saw that the power connector that the IEC lead goes into, only had live and neutral on the terminals, no earth, so there was no earth working on the appliance.Based on that, I failed it, (the power connector was also loose).
Have any of you come across anything similar?:hurray:

there have been a few posts about the circulation of non conforming IEC leads believed to be from the far east. No or poor continuity on the earth wire was one of the more serious issues identified. May be worth checking these posts out as you may have one.

Bah, I just re-read your post and realized you were talking about the appliance. In my hung over state I thought you were commenting on broken continuity between the earth pin of the IEC lead and the exposed conducive parts of the shredder. I'll shut up and go back to bed lol.
