Can anyone advise me on step ladder purchase? I need to get some suitable step ladders to work up to 8 feet approx. I would like to store them in my van (Transit Connect), so ideally collapsible. something like Little Giants. Now I understand the advantages of glassfibre steps, but none of them would appear to fit in my van for that sort of height.

What steps do you use?

I use 8 tread fiberglass step ladders and they fit diagonally in the back of my Kangoo, should fit in a Connect. There are some on special offer from JTF at the moment, not the best in the world but good enough for the money.

definitely fibreglass for when working live ( which we never do, of course. :mickey:). otherwise alli.

Old cheap set of undersized domestic aluminium and 4 plastic buckets to stand it on .....same outcome, insulation value and fits in the van .....to note the buckets can also be utilised for other users :)

I've never really understood the need for fibreglass steps, altho' my current employer insists we have them.

Certainly can't see any need if it's only for domestic use.

The only time you are likely to really need them is if you are working if front of live exposed busbars which even I wouldn't do.

I've always found Industrial quality ally steps lighter and stronger and I've never managed to knock any over into any live parts.

That's my thoughts really, fibreglass seems more bulky, heavier & less adaptable. Could never see when I would want to work on live parts in domestic use, certainly not when on top of a pair of steps. So thanks for all your replies, you've ansered my question - like these: PRO Series Model 22 - PRO Series - Special Purpose

If you're a neon screwdriver user I would avoid fiberglass stepladders unless of course you install a trailing earth bond to yourself ;)

Ive got a step ladder ...my real ladder ran away.

PS this thread is over a year old, Im sure he's sorted out his ladder by now.
