Hi,

I have very limited knowledge of electrics and I am in need of some help. I've just gone to change the ceiling rose on my landing, took all of the wires out of their appropriate places, and can't remember where to put them on the new one.

It's one of them that when you flick one of 2 switches, 2 lights come on.

Please explain in simple terms

Thanks!!

P.S I know some countries have different wiring methods, i'm from England. Getting an electrician out isn't really an option for us either.

You need an electrician! If you try and guess what goes where you will probably get a loud 'bang'! The cables could be.... Anything so best to bite bullet and pay. Sorry to be blunt but really is best advice, lighting cabling can be a brain twister atbest of times, with understanding and a meter.....cheers

Thats made me smile...

There is a black or blue wire in there which is actually a live conductor. Its the switchwire.

You need to work out which wire that is to re-connect the circuit correctly again.

A continuity tester might help you with this.

All the best.

possibly but don`t forget there might not be, could be twin brown or twin red.

IDK if we're talking about the same thing here, but on my ceiling, there's more wires than there are holes to put them in. that's what confused me lol.

Yeah that twin brown stuff, cant recall cable code but its there at wholesalers ! Its nice to find but rare, more likely to find a blue or black not sleeved as live (sorry line)

i have done quite a few with twin browns/reds. just thought it was worth a mention :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh but you see Phil installs are at the upper end of the market and can afford such luxuries.................last time I even tried to get double RED, at that time there was a week delivery and it was nearly 60% dearer, needless to say out came the red sleeving.;)

at least you bothered to sleeve it malcolm :) now there are enough who are guilty of not doing so

I may have been stretching the truth a little mate ........................sleeving cost money so if it was lucky it got a dab of red tape and that was if I were flush.

Brown not red.

Giggle.

I know you are a clever man Malclom.

When I last tried to buy it mate I think it may have been reb/black leaded lol ..............with those clips that had a nail through the middle of them and you slid the end through like a belt...................

i still use 'em

I LIKED using them.

it was a thing of beauty.

not many cables could be seen, but the ones that could be seen were clipped with buckle clips.

loved it.
